Summerized is the design studio of Summer Powell, an award-winning Bay Area creative director.
With 13 years of experience, Powell is equally adept in interactive, print and identity design. Her design experience crosses a broad range of industries including tech, telecom, entertainment, pharmaceutical, architectural, public relations, sports, food and beverage, fashion, cosmetics, luxury timepieces and fine art.
Recent clients include tech startups, executive recruitment firms, authors, architects, personal trainers and more. Projects include branding, interactive and print design. In 2009, her Bodega Party in a Box kit, a pro bono project for a non-profit, was featured in the Toronto Globe and Mail, Condé Nast Traveler and Gothamist.
Before moving to San Francisco, Powell was creative director and cofounder of design firm Elevator, in New York. At Elevator she designed for well-known brands such as VH1, Showtime, Glaxo Smithkline, Tiffany, Oxygen Media, and Best Buy. Projects included branding, e-commerce sites, online advertising, complex media kits, books and packaging. Her work for VH1 was featured in Detroit AIGA’s annual exhibition, and her typography was included in several type design books and magazines.
Before founding Elevator, Powell was Senior Art Director at Icon MediaLab, where she co-led a team designing Motorola’s online presence, including a worldwide online style guide and e-commerce website. She was also Creative Director of Droog.com, an e-commerce clothing site for hip teen guys.
Powell began her career as an art director at iXL and Rare Medium in New York, directing online design for clients such as Samsung, Johnson & Johnson, Scholastic Books, Scudder Kemper, KPMG and General Mills.
She graduated from Oregon State University with a BFA in Graphic Design, and Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan with an MFA in 2D Design.
Powell’s hobbies include hiking, scuba diving, and travel.
